Fluorspar (CaF2)

Fluorspar (CaF2)

Fluorite is a common halide mineral, a compound composed of calcium fluoride and an important mineral for extracting fluorine. Fluorite is also used as a flux for steelmaking and aluminum production, and as a catalyst for making opalescent glass, enamel products and high-octane fuel production.

Generally granular or blocky, with glass luster, mostly green or purple. Fluorspar often emits blue-green fluorescence under ultraviolet or cathode ray irradiation, and its name is derived from this characteristic.
For high-quality fluorite, North Industries is one of the leading fluorspar suppliers, providing top-grade materials for various industrial applications.

Fluorspar (CaF2) Types

Classification of Fluorite

According to the requirements of the national standard for grade quality of fluorite ore, according to the different processing processes, main uses and chemical composition of fluorite ore, it is divided into three categories: fluorite concentrate FC, fluorite block ore FL and fluorite powder ore FF, the classification standards are as follows:

  • Fluorite concentrate FC: CaF2 composition content is not less than 93%-98%, SiO2 composition content is not more than 2%-0.6%, particle size can pass through the 0.154mm sieve of fluorite content is not less than 80%.

  • The composition content of FL: CaF2 is not less than 65%-98%, the composition content of SiO2 is not more than 32%-1.5%, and the particle size should not be more than 5% of the fluorite through the sieve hole of more than 6mm, the fluorite amount of less than 200mm sieve hole is not more than 10%, and the maximum particle size is 250mm.

  • The composition content of FF, CaF2 is not less than 65%-98%, the composition content of SiO2 is not more than 0.3%-0.2%, and the particle size requirements can only pass 0~6mm sieve.

FAQs of Fluorspar (CaF2)

FAQs of Fluorspar (CaF2)

  • Q What is fluoride?

Fluorides are compounds that contain fluorine atoms, usually in the form of F-ions. Fluoride is very reductive and reactive, can form salts with many metals, and can also react with many compounds.

  • Q Application of fluorite

Fluorite, also known as calcium fluoride or fluorite, is a natural mineral whose main component is calcium fluoride and is widely used in many industrial fields, such as:

    • In the field of aluminum smelting, aluminum can react with fluorite to produce aluminum fluoride

    • In the fertilizer industry, calcium fluoride can be used to manufacture urea, ammonium sulfate and other fertilizers

    • In the ceramic industry, calcium fluoride can be used to make glazes to improve the gloss and hardness of ceramic products

    • Fluorite, as a kind of oxidizing agent in iron and steel smelting, can help the hot metal to remove sulfur, phosphorus and other impurities, and improve the quality and purity of steel.

    • In the glass industry, fluorite is also an important additive
